Opening ceremony for the Carabinieri Officers’ School 2022/23 academic year

Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Alfredo Mantovano read out President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni’s message of greeting on the occasion of the opening ceremony for the 2022/23 academic year at the ‘Scuola Ufficiali Carabinieri’ [‘Carabinieri Officers’ School’]. President Meloni was unable to attend the event in person due to flu symptoms.

Phone call between President Meloni and the Emir of Qatar

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone conversation today with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, on the occasion of his official visit to Italy. President Meloni first of all expressed her regret that she was unable to attend the meetings at the Quirinale Palace with the President of the Republic due to a flu causing her to cancel all her scheduled engagements. During the call, the two leaders discussed the issues on the bilateral agenda in depth, with particular reference to regional cooperation, energy cooperation and investment, noting the opportunities for growth in relations between Italy and Qatar. They expressed their hope to soon have another opportunity to meet.

Palazzo Chigi lit up with Italian tricolour to mark day of remembrance

Palazzo Chigi, the seat of the Italian Government, was lit up with the Italian tricolour from 6pm on Friday 10 until dawn on Saturday 11 February, to mark the day of remembrance for the victims of the Foibe massacres and the Istrian–Dalmatian exodus. The words “Io ricordo” [“I remember”] were projected onto the centre of the building’s façade.

Today, Italy marks the Day of Remembrance that pays tribute to the martyrs of the Foibe massacres and to the Italians of Istria, Rijeka and Dalmatia who were forced to abandon their homes and their lands just because they were Italian. Hundreds of thousands of our compatriots had no choice but to flee, and, on several occasions, the nation failed to embrace them as it should have.

Good morning everyone. I wish to greet and thank the President of ‘Cia-Agricoltori Italiani’ (‘CIA’) [Italian Farmers’ Confederation], Cristiano Fini, for the invitation. I apologise that I am unable to attend CIA’s ninth economic conference, but I nevertheless wanted to send my contribution. My greetings go to the Ministers, European Commissioner for Agriculture Wojciechowski and the representatives of the institutions and economic categories who will be attending your two-day event. I of course also wish to greet all CIA delegates present.

Foibe massacres: President Meloni signs decree to establish Remembrance Day committee

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, has signed a Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers (‘DPCM’) establishing a committee to coordinate the Day of Remembrance for the victims of the Foibe massacres and the post-World War II exodus of the people of Istria, Rijeka and Dalmatia. The committee will ensure efficient and coordinated planning of the initiatives and ceremonies proposed by authorities to mark the Day of Remembrance, which was established by Law no. 92 of 30 March 2004. Palazzo Chigi, the seat of Government, will be lit up with the colours of the Italian tricolour from 6pm on Friday 10 until dawn on Saturday 11 February, with the words “I Remember” projected onto the centre of its façade.
