President Meloni and Undersecretary of State Mantovano in Sicily following the arrest of Matteo Messina Denaro
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met in Palermo this morning with the District Prosecutor of Palermo, Maurizio de Lucia, the judicial officers who coordinated the investigation and the Carabinieri agents from the ROS [Special Operations Group] who carried out the arrest of the notorious fugitive mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro. Before arriving at the Prosecutor’s Office, President Meloni and Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Alfredo Mantovano paid tribute at the memorial honouring the victims of the Capaci bombing.

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met in Palermo this morning with the District Prosecutor of Palermo, Maurizio de Lucia, the judicial officers who coordinated the investigation and the Carabinieri agents from the ROS [Special Operations Group] who carried out the arrest of the notorious fugitive mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro. She later addressed journalists at a doorstep.

Arresto di Matteo Messina Denaro, il Presidente Meloni e il Sottosegretario Mantovano in Sicilia
Il Presidente del Consiglio Giorgia Meloni si è recata questa mattina a Palermo per incontrare il procuratore distrettuale di Palermo, Maurizio de Lucia, i magistrati che hanno coordinato le indagini e i carabinieri del Ros che hanno eseguito l'arresto del boss super latitante Matteo Messina Denaro. Successivamente ha tenuto un punto stampa.
Prima dell'arrivo in Procura, il Presidente Meloni e il Sottosegretario alla Presidenza Alfredo Mantovano hanno osservato un minuto di raccoglimento davanti alla stele in memoria delle vittime della strage di Capaci.

President Meloni’s statement on the arrest of Matteo Messina Denaro
“This is a great victory for the state, showing that it does not give up in the face of the mafia”, commented President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni on the news of the arrest of Matteo Messina Denaro. “The day after the anniversary of Totò Riina’s arrest, another organised crime boss has been brought to justice. My sincerest thanks, along with those of the entire Government, go to the police forces, and in particular the ‘ROS’ [Special Operations Group] of the Carabinieri, to the National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor’s Office and to the Palermo Public Prosecutor’s Office, for the capture of the most significant exponent of mafia-related crime. The Government – continued President Meloni – ensures that the fight against the mafia will continue unabated, as shown by the fact that the first measure we introduced (defending the hard prison regime for mafia convicts) referred precisely to this issue”.

President Meloni meets with Banca d’Italia Governor Visco
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met this afternoon with the Governor of Banca d’Italia, Ignazio Visco, at Palazzo Chigi. During the cordial meeting, Italy’s growth prospects and expected macroeconomic scenarios for this year were discussed.

Si è riunita oggi, presso la sala Verde di Palazzo Chigi, la Cabina di Regia del PNRR, presieduta dal Ministro per gli Affari europei, il Sud, le politiche di coesione e il PNRR, Raffaele Fitto, per fare il punto con tutte le amministrazioni centrali e territoriali. Alla riunione hanno preso parte anche il Presidente della Conferenza delle Regioni e Province autonome, Massimiliano Fedriga, il Presidente dell’Anci, Antonio De Caro, e il Presidente dell’Upi, Michele De Pascale.

“Since entering office, this Government has worked to sign the first Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers regarding the essential works that cannot be postponed for the organisation of the Catholic Church’s 2025 Jubilee.
