President Meloni in Latvia
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met today with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, Krišjānis Kariņš, in Riga. Following their meeting, the two leaders issued statements to the press. Together with Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto, President Meloni went on to meet with personnel from the Italian military contingent at the Camp Ādaži military base.

Statement by President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni
Italy is a member of the international convention that prohibits the production, transfer and stockpiling of cluster munitions. Within the framework of values expressed by the Atlantic Alliance, Italy hopes for a universal application of this convention’s principles.
I reiterate Italy’s condemnation of Russia’s war of aggression, full and constant support for Ukraine’s resistance, and commitment with Allies to build a new and stronger security model for Europe.

National day of mourning and flags at half-mast following the passing of Arnaldo Forlani
Following the passing of former President of the Council of Ministers Arnaldo Forlani, Italian and EU flags will be flown at half-mast on public buildings throughout Italy and at the seats of Italian diplomatic and consular missions abroad from 8 to 10 July 2023. A state funeral will be held on 10 July 2023, which has also been declared a national day of mourning.

President Meloni meets with Svetlana Tikhanovskaya
President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni had a meeting this afternoon with Belarusian democratic opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who is currently visiting Rome. President Meloni confirmed the Italian Government’s full solidarity with the Belarusian democratic opposition forces.

President Meloni’s call with Prime Minister Sunak
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone conversation today with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak. The call focused on preparations for next week’s NATO Summit in Vilnius, the priority of continued support for Ukraine with a commitment to provide security guarantees, and the urgent need to ensure an effective and global response to our societies’ main challenges.
