Foibe massacres: President Meloni signs decree to establish Remembrance Day committee
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, has signed a Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers (‘DPCM’) establishing a committee to coordinate the Day of Remembrance for the victims of the Foibe massacres and the post-World War II exodus of the people of Istria, Rijeka and Dalmatia. The committee will ensure efficient and coordinated planning of the initiatives and ceremonies proposed by authorities to mark the Day of Remembrance, which was established by Law no. 92 of 30 March 2004. Palazzo Chigi, the seat of Government, will be lit up with the colours of the Italian tricolour from 6pm on Friday 10 until dawn on Saturday 11 February, with the words “I Remember” projected onto the centre of its façade.

"Allo stato attuale, in base alle informazioni fornite, le squadre USAR (Urban Search And Rescue) dei Vigili del fuoco italiani in Turchia sono riuscite a salvare due ragazzi in due distinte operazioni di soccorso ad Antiochia e stanno lavorando per trarre in salvo altre persone. Voglio far pervenire un incoraggiamento e un ringraziamento sentito ai nostri generosi connazionali che stanno concretamente portando aiuto alle popolazioni colpite da questo apocalittico terremoto, con la loro specifica professionalità nella ricerca e nel soccorso in contesti cittadini".

“In merito alla notizia riportata su alcuni quotidiani nazionali, secondo la quale il Sottosegretario di Stato alla Presidenza del Consiglio, On. Giovanbattista Fazzolari, mi avrebbe richiesto un parere per introdurre lezioni di tiro a segno nei programmi scolastici, dichiaro che tale richiesta non ha mai avuto luogo e non vi è stata alcuna proposta in tal senso. La notizia, pertanto, è totalmente priva di fondamento”.
