Phone call between President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni and Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Olaf Scholz

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone conversation today with the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Olaf Scholz. Both leaders underlined the strong partnership between Italy and Germany. 

The conversation focused on the war in Ukraine. President Meloni stressed Italy’s commitment to providing Kyiv with political, military, economic and humanitarian support, being conscious of how Ukraine’s reconstruction represents a crucial aspect. President Meloni and Chancellor Scholz then discussed the energy issue, in light of the conclusions from the last European Council meeting.

President Meloni reiterated both the importance of the progress made at European level and the urgency to arrive at concrete measures to reduce energy prices as soon as possible. During their conversation, President Meloni and Chancellor Scholz also addressed, in closing, issues regarding Europe’s management of migration flows and the subject of economic growth.
