The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a very cordial meeting today with the Prime Minister of the Lebanese Republic, Najib Mikati.
During the meeting, President Meloni reaffirmed Italy’s willingness to continue contributing to Lebanon’s security and stability at this delicate juncture in the country’s history. Prime Minister Mikati expressed great appreciation for Italy’s contribution to the UNIFIL mission and to training the Lebanese armed forces.
Issues on the bilateral agenda were discussed in depth, with particular regard to collaboration in the areas of energy and development cooperation, as well as migration policies in the Mediterranean.
During the meeting, the latest developments in the Middle East were also discussed, with particular reference to Syria and the issue of Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
