The Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP, Raffaele Fitto, met today with the Minister for Migration of the Netherlands, Eric van der Burg.
First of all, the two ministers recalled the recent meeting between President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni and Prime Minister Mark Rutte in Rome, underlining the excellent level of cooperation between the two countries at European level.
They then had an in-depth exchange of views on migration issues and EU migration policy, with particular regard to the external dimension. In this context, Minister Fitto and Minister van der Burg agreed on the need to fully follow up on the Conclusions of the February European Council meeting.
During the meeting, the topic of negotiations on the new Pact on Migration and Asylum was also discussed. Minister Fitto reiterated the need for the European Union to urgently adopt new rules on this matter, assuring the Government’s full readiness to approach the negotiations with an open and constructive spirit, provided that the final compromise is based on a fair balance between the principles of solidarity and responsibility.
