The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone conversation today with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.
The conversation focused on the next issues to be discussed at EU level, and in particular the definition of the EU Strategic Agenda 2024-2029, which Italy believes must address security and defence, confirm the new European approach to managing the migration phenomenon and strengthen the strategic autonomy and competitiveness of European industry as priorities.
President Meloni also stressed the need to always act in accordance with the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality, and to have adequate common resources to meet objectives.
Lastly, President Meloni confirmed Italy’s request to include an item on the agenda for the European Council meeting to be held on 27 and 28 June regarding an update on the implementation of EU migration policies.
