First day of the G7 Summit

The Summit of the G7 Heads of State and Government is being held at Borgo Egnazia, in Italy’s Apulia Region, from Thursday 13th to Saturday 15th June, chaired by the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni.

On the first day of the Summit, after the welcome ceremony and family photo, the working sessions ‘Africa, Climate Change and Development’, ‘Middle East’ and ‘Ukraine’ were held. The working session on Ukraine was also attended by President Zelensky. A side event on the G7 Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII) was held later in the afternoon. The first day’s working sessions were brought to a close with a flag ceremony and closing press statement by President Meloni.

In the evening, the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, received the G7 Leaders at the Swabian Castle of Brindisi for an official dinner.

The working sessions ‘Migration’ and ‘Indo-Pacific and Economic Security’ and the Outreach session on ‘Artificial Intelligence, Energy, Africa-Mediterranean’ are set to be held tomorrow. The Outreach session will also be attended by the invited Nations and International Organisations and will also see the participation of His Holiness Pope Francis.
