Payment request for sixth NRRP instalment sent to European Commission

28 Giugno 2024

Italy sent the payment request for the sixth instalment of its National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), equal to EUR 8.5 billion, to the European Commission earlier today.

The formal request was submitted following the steering committee meeting held on 24 June, chaired by President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni, which checked that the 37 milestones and targets required had been met.

“The payment request for the sixth instalment of the NRRP – stated President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni – confirms the positive work by the Government and Italy’s leading position, ranking first in Europe in terms of goals met. In addition to the numerous investments linked to the sixth instalment, important reforms have also been approved, including measures dedicated to people with disabilities and elderly people who are not self-sufficient. All this shows that people remain at the heart of the major NRRP works projects: the elderly, large families, people with disabilities, with their vulnerabilities and all the difficulties they face; the Government will never turn its back on them. We must all work hard – concluded President Meloni – until the very last reform has come into force and the very last works project of Italy’s Plan has been signed off; no one must be left behind”.

In line with the previous payment requests, the sixth instalment will be disbursed upon completion of the standard assessment process provided for by European procedures, the aim of which is to verify that all required milestones and targets have been met.

“As was the case for the fifth instalment and as highlighted during the last steering committee meeting – stated Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP Raffaele Fitto – also for the sixth instalment, we are the first nation to submit our payment request, confirming the constructive work by the Government, in synergistic institutional cooperation with the European Commission and all bodies in charge of implementing Italy’s complex and detailed Plan. Work on the NRRP is moving forward swiftly – highlighted Minister Fitto  – and, in the coming days, we will be calling another steering committee meeting to initiate the assessment and reporting work for the 69 milestones and targets required for the seventh instalment, worth EUR 18.2 billion”.
