The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met in Beijing today with the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping.
The two leaders discussed the positive development of relations between Italy and China in the context of the 20-year anniversary of the Global Strategic Partnership, stressing the importance of balanced, mutually beneficial cooperation based on reciprocal trust. During the meeting, the main issues on the bilateral agenda were also discussed, from matters regarding the economy and trade to collaboration in the fields of science and culture.
The two leaders went on to address the priorities of the international agenda, from the war in Ukraine to the risks of a further escalation of the situation in the Middle East. They also discussed the growing tensions in the Indo-Pacific.
In closing, President Meloni and President Xi focused on some of the major global governance issues of common interest, from artificial intelligence through to the fight against climate change and the United Nations Security Council reform process.
