The Italian Government has announced that land border checks between Italy and Slovenia are to be reintroduced, pursuant to article 28 of the Schengen Borders Code (EU Regulation no. 2016/399). Minister of the Interior Piantedosi provided notification of this reintroduction of internal border control, already adopted in the Schengen area, to Vice-President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas, European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson, President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union Thérèse Blanchet and the Interior Ministers of EU Member States and Schengen associated countries.

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met with His Beatitude Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rai, Patriarch of Antioch for Maronites, at Palazzo Chigi today. The meeting, which was also attended by Undersecretary of State Alfredo Mantovano and representatives from the ‘Aiuto alla Chiesa che Soffre’ foundation, focused on the current crisis in the Middle East and the latest developments in the region, with particular reference to the situation in Lebanon. Council of Ministers meeting no. 54 was held at Palazzo Chigi today. Following the meeting, President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni, Minister of Economy and Finance Giancarlo Giorgetti, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Maurizio Leo, and Vice-Presidents of the Council of Ministers Antonio Tajani and Matteo Salvini held a press conference to illustrate the measures adopted.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the rounding up of the Jews of Rome during the Second World War, the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, received the President of the Jewish Community of Rome, Victor Fadlun, at Palazzo Chigi today. President Meloni issued the following statement in the margins of the meeting: “On 16 October 1943, one of the most heinous crimes in Italian history was committed.
