President Meloni’s statement on ten-year anniversary of Lampedusa shipwreck

It is with deep emotion that we today remember the tragic Lampedusa shipwreck ten years ago, which claimed the lives of 368 people. There have since been too many such tragedies involving people trying to reach Europe’s shores, and it is our clear duty to bring an end to this continual carnage, also by blocking the departure of makeshift boats. The Italian Government’s efforts to break up the horrendous business of human trafficking will continue unabated, also in the name of all the victims who have lost their lives at sea.

Nagorno-Karabakh: statement by Palazzo Chigi

Yesterday evening, the European Commission received a request for international assistance from the Republic of Armenia, due to the ongoing exodus from the area of Nagorno-Karabakh. Materials are requested to help the displaced people arriving in Armenian territory, in terms of temporary shelters and medical goods.  Italy, which is working to support stabilisation of the region by fostering dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan, has in the meantime immediately activated its civil protection system, initiating an inventory of the materials available at the national service’s various branches to help the population and meet the needs expressed by the country.

Inflation: first pact to protect citizens’ purchasing power signed at Palazzo Chigi

An ‘Anti-Inflation Quarter’ pact was signed at Palazzo Chigi today by President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni, Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso, Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry Francesco Lollobrigida, and by representatives of the world of production, processing and distribution. 32 associations forming part of Italy’s economic system will be supporting the Government to protect the purchasing power of citizens and households.

President Meloni meets with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a long and cordial meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, Edi Rama, at Palazzo Chigi today. The two leaders discussed the main bilateral issues, noting the excellent relations between Rome and Tirana in the political, economic, trade, cultural and social spheres.
