Today, Italy honours the victims of the Fosse Ardeatine massacre. Seventy-nine years ago, 335 Italians were barbarically slaughtered by occupying Nazi troops in retaliation for the Via Rasella attack by partisans in Rome. The steering committee for the works projects relating to the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics met today at Palazzo Chigi. The steering committee is a forum for discussion and a political, strategic and functional connection between government administrations, regional and local authorities, the ‘Milano Cortina 2026’ Foundation, the company ‘Infrastrutture Milano Cortina 2026’ and the other players involved, and its purpose is to ensure a united approach, coordination and a timely implementation of works projects and measures.

A steering committee meeting on the water crisis was held today at Palazzo Chigi, chaired by Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini. During the meeting, it was decided to speed up and coordinate the planning of medium and long-term infrastructure measures and, in the short term, to appoint a national commissioner up until 31 December 2023, who will have a renewable mandate and a very specific scope of responsibilities.
