The Italy-Romania Intergovernmental Summit was held at Villa Doria Pamphilj in Rome today, with the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, and the Prime Minister of Romania, Marcel Ciolacu. During the summit, the two leaders issued statements to the press.

President Meloni’s statement on income tax measure for farmers

At this difficult time for the agricultural sector, the choice to guarantee additional support is the result of the work carried out by the Agriculture and Economy Ministries, which have drawn up a fairer tax measure proposal that takes into consideration the requests put forward during last week’s discussion with farmers’ organisations. During that meeting, I acknowledged the organisations’ proposals and presented the many results our Government has achieved in Italy to the benefit of the agricultural sector. Our commitment will now be even stronger in Europe, where we will call for agriculture to be put back at the forefront of discussions.

President Meloni meets with President Milei of Argentina

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, received the President of the Argentine Republic, Javier Milei, at Palazzo Chigi today. Recalling the historical cultural ties between Italy and Argentina, the meeting focused on the common will to strengthen bilateral relations, starting with economic cooperation in strategic sectors such as energy, infrastructures and agriculture.

President Meloni in Trieste for Day of Remembrance

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, delivered a speech at this morning’s ceremony at the ‘Foiba di Basovizza’ national monument to mark the day of remembrance for the victims of the Foibe massacres and the exodus from Istria, Rijeka and Dalmatia. She later attended the inauguration of the ‘Treno del Ricordo’ [‘Remembrance Train’] on platform 1 of Trieste central station.

President Meloni’s telephone conversation with President al-Sisi

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone conversation this evening with President al-Sisi of Egypt. The call focused on the follow-up to the Italia-Africa Summit, starting with implementation of the projects included in the ‘Mattei Plan for Africa’, as part of which Egypt is one of the pilot Countries. The telephone conversation, part of ongoing contacts with key leaders in the region, also addressed the current situation in the Middle East. Four months on from the dramatic capture of hostages on October 7th, and confirming the need to continue with humanitarian efforts, the Italian Government’s strong wish for their speedy release was reiterated.

President Meloni’s statement on the European Commission withdrawing the legislative proposal on pesticides

The European Commission’s announcement on the withdrawal of the legislative proposal on pesticides is also an Italian victory. Ever since coming to office, the Italian Government has, in fact, been working at European level, with a very pragmatic and common-sense approach, to chart a different path from the one that has been followed thus far and combine agricultural production, respect for work and environmental sustainability. We will continue in this direction.
