The visit confirms the strategic value of the partnership and the excellent level of the relationship between the two Countries. The exchange of important memoranda of understanding regarding several strategic sectors of mutual interest and the adoption of a joint statement attest to the will to diversify and deepen ties in all sectors of common interest.

Statement by Palazzo Chigi: Italian Government gives green light for sale of TIM network to US infrastructure fund KKR

The Italian Government has given its go-ahead for the sale of telecommunications operator TIM’s network to US infrastructure fund KKR, with conditions. The green light is another key step in the acquisition of NetCo (the company that owns substantially all of TIM’s fixed network infrastructure), protecting the national interest and ensuring state control over the strategic assets belonging to Italy’s main telecommunications network.

President Meloni chairs NRRP steering committee meeting on the fifth, sixth and seventh instalments of the Plan

The steering committee for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) met at Palazzo Chigi today, to discuss the work being carried out to verify achievement of the 52 milestones and targets required for the fifth instalment of the NRRP, which follows the payment request submitted by Italy on 28 December, the annual monitoring programme and the checking of the milestones and targets required for the sixth and seventh instalments of the new Italian Plan approved by the European Commission on 24 November. The meeting, called by Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP Raffaele Fitto, was chaired by the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, and was attended by the Ministers and Undersecretaries involved as well as by representatives of Regions, Provinces and Municipalities.

Council of Ministers approves decree to protect continuity of production and employment for companies in crisis

The Council of Ministers approved a decree-law today that strengthens a number of existing measures to protect the continuity of production and employment for companies in crisis, including the former Ilva steel plant, and provides guarantees for a ‘cassa integrazione straordinaria’ [exceptional fund to supplement earnings] during possible extraordinary administration proceedings. Plant safety and maintenance workers are excluded from the ‘cassa integrazione’ scheme, allowing them to remain operational. The existing legal provisions for the protection of small and medium-sized creditor companies remain in place. A meeting with trade union organisations has been scheduled for 3pm on Thursday 18 January to continue the discussions that have been underway for some time on the future of steel in Italy.
