President Meloni’s call with President Sánchez
Following yesterday’s calls ahead of the special European Council meeting on 9-10 February, the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone conversation today with the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez. The exchange of views focused on comprehensive European support for Ukraine, EU solutions to support the competitiveness of enterprises and finally having European management of migration flows, centred on the external dimension and border control.

Consiglio europeo del 9-10 febbraio: conversazioni telefoniche con Macron, Rutte, Nehammer e Mitsotakis
Dopo gli incontri il 3 febbraio a Stoccolma e Berlino, il Presidente del Consiglio, Giorgia Meloni, ha avuto una fitta serie di telefonate in preparazione del Consiglio Europeo straordinario del 9-10 febbraio, con il Presidente della Repubblica francese, Macron, con il Primo Ministro olandese, Rutte, con il Cancelliere federale austriaco, Nehammer, e con il Primo Ministro greco, Mitsotakis. Al centro dello scambio di vedute, la priorità di un segnale concreto del Consiglio Europeo sul pieno sostegno all’Ucraina a 360 gradi, e su soluzioni UE a sostegno della competitività delle imprese e per una gestione finalmente europea dei flussi migratori incentrata sulla dimensione esterna e sul controllo dei confini.

Riunione della Cabina di Regia del PNRR
Si è tenuta oggi la Cabina di Regia del PNRR per avviare un confronto sul nuovo capitolo da inserire nel PNRR relativo al RepowerEU, il Piano europeo per fronteggiare le difficoltà del mercato energetico globale causate dalla guerra in Ucraina. La riunione si è svolta alla presenza del Presidente Giorgia Meloni, del Ministro per il Pnrr, le Politiche di Coesione e il Sud, Raffaele Fitto e tutti i Ministri competenti. Hanno partecipato gli amministratori delegati dei principali operatori del settore energetico ed elettrico nazionale Enel, Eni, Snam e Terna.

NRRP Steering Committee Meeting
A steering committee meeting for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (‘NRRP’) was held today to begin discussions on the new chapter to be included in the NRRP relating to REPowerEU, the European plan to address the global energy market difficulties caused by the war in Ukraine. The meeting was held in the presence of the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, the Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP, Raffaele Fitto, and all other relevant ministers. The managing directors of Enel, Eni, Snam and Terna, Italy’s main energy and electricity sector operators, also attended the meeting.

European Council meeting on 9-10 February: President Meloni’s calls with President Macron, Prime Minister Rutte, Federal Chancellor Nehammer and Prime Minister Mitsotakis
Following her meetings in Stockholm and Berlin on 3 February, President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni had a series of telephone conversations today, with President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron, with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, with Austrian Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer and with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, ahead of the special European Council meeting to be held on 9-10 February. The exchanges of views focused on the priority of a concrete sign from the European Council on full and comprehensive support for Ukraine, and on EU solutions to support the competitiveness of enterprises and to finally have European management of migration flows, centred on the external dimension and border control.

Statement by Palazzo Chigi on the earthquake in Türkiye
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, is constantly following developments regarding the devastating earthquake that has hit Türkiye, on the border with Syria, and is being kept up to date by the Civil Protection Department. She expresses sympathy and solidarity with the populations affected. The Italian Civil Protection Department has already stated its readiness to contribute to rescue operations.
