The steering committee for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) met at Palazzo Chigi today, to discuss the work being carried out to verify achievement of the 52 milestones and targets required for the fifth instalment of the NRRP, which follows the payment request submitted by Italy on 28 December, the annual monitoring programme and the checking of the milestones and targets required for the sixth and seventh instalments of the new Italian Plan approved by the European Commission on 24 November. The meeting, called by Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP Raffaele Fitto, was chaired by the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, and was attended by the Ministers and Undersecretaries involved as well as by representatives of Regions, Provinces and Municipalities.

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, visited the Italian Air Force Museum in Vigna di Valle this morning, together with the Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto. The museum was recently renovated and reopened in June last year.

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone conversation today with the Prime Minister of the Lebanese Republic, Najib Mikati. During the exchange of views, the latest developments in the ongoing crisis were addressed and both leaders reiterated their will to avoid the conflict in Gaza spreading. In particular, President Meloni discussed how to strengthen the ongoing mediation between Lebanon and Israel, underscoring Italy’s utmost readiness to work with all parties involved.

Italy firmly condemns the repeated Houthi attacks on merchant vessels in the Red Sea and confirms its strong support for the right of free and safe navigation, in line with international law. In the face of unacceptable Houthi behavior, Italy supports the operations of allied nations, which have the right to defend their vessels, in the interest of global trade flows and humanitarian assistance.
