The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, received Edmundo González Urrutia, winner of the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, at Palazzo Chigi today. Offering her congratulations for the recently awarded prize, President Meloni stressed that the situation in Venezuela is a priority for the Italian Government, also as current G7 Presidency, and provided assurance of support for the ongoing efforts to facilitate a democratic and peaceful transition that corresponds to the will of the Venezuelan people.

At the initiative of the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, the G7 Leaders have adopted a statement announcing that they have reached an agreement to provide a total of approximately $50 billion in loans to Ukraine, backed by the profits deriving from frozen Russian sovereign assets. This important result confirms the commitment undertaken by the G7 Leaders during the Summit held at Borgo Egnazia, in Italy’s Apulia Region, in June.

Their discussion focused on the main issues on the international agenda: from Russia’s aggression against Ukraine to the Middle East crisis, through to the situation in Venezuela.
