The Grand Stairway of Honour

The majestic ‘Scalone d’Onore’ [‘Grand Stairway of Honour’] is adorned with the Chigi family coat of arms and decorated with antique statues, Roman sarcophagi and large bronze lanterns dating back to the 17th century. The stairway is positioned to the left of the door onto Via del Corso, which used to be the main entrance during the Chigi era but has since been closed off.

The newly appointed President of the Council of Ministers walks up this staircase after being formally greeted by his/her predecessor in front of the Guard of Honour in the Palace courtyard.
