President Meloni meets with President Erdoğan of the Republic of Türkiye

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a bilateral meeting today with the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in the margins of the G20 Summit.
President Meloni expressed sympathy, both personally and on behalf of the Government, to the Turkish people following the cowardly terrorist attack in which innocent civilians lost their lives. The two leaders agreed on the need to continue the common fight against terrorism with determination.
During the meeting, they agreed on the opportunity to tap the Mediterranean region’s vast potential together.
The two leaders stressed the need to work together to tackle irregular migration and to facilitate resolution of the Libyan crisis. They discussed developments in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and the main challenges facing the international community, in which both Türkiye and Italy are involved. The leaders also shared their desire for bilateral trade relations to be further strengthened.
President Meloni also underlined the importance of cooperation between Italy and Türkiye within NATO, and stressed the willingness to work together to further strengthen bilateral relations between Rome and Ankara.
