President Meloni’s statement on FAI Spring Days

25 March 2023

For over thirty years, ‘FAI Spring Days’ have provided an extraordinary opportunity to celebrate and raise awareness of the hidden beauty of Italy’s artistic and cultural heritage. This weekend, people will have the chance to visit hundreds of little-known gems that are often closed to the public. Thanks to FAI [Italian Environment Fund] and the work of thousands of volunteers and ‘apprentice guides’, special, characteristic places that safeguard unique pages of our history will be opening their doors once again. Among the many, there is Villa Bonaparte in Rome, headquarters of the French Embassy to the Holy See, which bore witness to one of the most important episodes of the Risorgimento: the Breach of Porta Pia. Our nation is the homeland of beauty, and it is our duty to protect and enhance the immense heritage we are heirs to, just as it is our job to give a central role back to culture, in all its forms, to propel Italy into a new Renaissance. These are commitments we have made to citizens and the Government is devoted to pursuing them.
