President Meloni meets with the Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, received the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, at Palazzo Chigi today. The meeting focused on the strengthening of the bilateral relationship, particularly with regard to migration management, facilitating regular flows and countering the criminal activities of traffickers. It was noted that there is opportunity to further enhance development of investment and trade, culture, energy security and defence cooperation. A great deal of attention was devoted to the issue of food security, also in the context of the second United Nations Food Systems Summit being held at the FAO Headquarters, where President Meloni and Prime Minister Hasina both delivered opening addresses yesterday. The two Heads of Government also focused on developments in the Russian crisis and its repercussions, and on the situation in the Indo-Pacific.
During Prime Minister Hasina’s visit, an Executive Programme of Cultural Cooperation and a Memorandum of Understanding on energy cooperation were signed between Italy and Bangladesh.
