The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, delivered a speech at this morning’s ceremony at the ‘Foiba di Basovizza’ national monument to mark the day of remembrance for the victims of the Foibe massacres and the exodus from Istria, Rijeka and Dalmatia.
She later attended the inauguration of the ‘Treno del Ricordo’ [‘Remembrance Train’] on platform 1 of Trieste central station.
The Treno del Ricordo is a historical train featuring a multimedia exhibition which will begin its journey tomorrow, February 11th, from Trieste and will visit several cities (Venice, Milan, Turin, Genoa, Ancona, Bologna, Parma, La Spezia, Florence, Rome, Naples), with the idea being to follow the journeys made by the exiles from Istria, Rijeka and Dalmatia. The last stop will be in Taranto on February 27th.
The Treno del Ricordo is part of the programme of initiatives planned by the Committee in charge of coordinating commemorations of the day of remembrance, which was established within the Presidency of the Council of Ministers by Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni. The role of the committee is to ensure effective and coordinated planning of the initiatives and ceremonies proposed and organised by individual administrations with the involvement of associations, entities and various civil society organisations, for the day of remembrance on February 10th.
