The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, received the President of the Swiss Confederation, Viola Amherd, at Palazzo Chigi today.
The meeting provided an opportunity to confirm the solidity of Italy-Switzerland relations, with particular reference to the cross-border dimension, as well as the interest in working both on prospects to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation and on the main issues on the international agenda, including the renewed focus on the African continent.
President Meloni also guaranteed Italy’s commitment to the high-level Conference on peace in Ukraine being organised in Switzerland, in line with international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
Lastly, the meeting provided an opportunity to express appreciation for the Swiss Confederation’s role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, with particular reference to the situation in the Middle East, in line with resolution 2728.
