The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, received the female mountaineering team who will be heading to K2 to mark the 70th anniversary of the successful expedition by Italian mountaineers Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni, who were led by Ardito Desio, at Palazzo Chigi today.
The team set to climb the second highest peak in the world (with an altitude 8,611 metres above sea level) is made up of: Silvia Loreggian, Federica Mingolla, Cristina Piolini and Anna Torretta. President Meloni gave the four mountaineers an Italian tricolour flag, which they will take with them to the summit.
The expedition was devised by the Italian Mountaineering Club (‘Club Alpino Italiano’, ‘CAI’) and has been organised by the Ev-K2-CNR association.
President Meloni also received, among others: CAI president general Antonio Montani; Massimiliano Ossini, who will be making a documentary about the expedition for RAI; Agostino Da Polenza, head of the expedition and president of the Ev-K2-CNR association.
