G7 Summit: President Meloni meets with the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met today with the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, in the margins of the G7 Summit.

The two Leaders discussed the major current issues at international level, focusing in particular on developments in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and common efforts to provide Kyiv with support, including financial support, ahead of the upcoming NATO Summit in Washington.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to reaffirm their common commitment to a comprehensive agreement regarding the conflict in Gaza, for an end to the hostilities, the release of hostages and greater humanitarian support for the civilian population. The two Leaders also stressed the importance of reviving the peace process with the aim of reaching the two-State solution. 

On a bilateral level, President Meloni and President Biden expressed their satisfaction with developments with regard to both their bilateral relations and collaboration in the economic and financial sphere, as well as the cooperation between the Mattei Plan for Africa and the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment launched during the G7 Summit side event, which was co-chaired by the two Presidents. In this regard, the two Leaders recalled Italy’s contribution to the creation of the ‘Lobito Corridor’ infrastructure project.
