Following the positive assessment by the European Commission, the European Council has today approved the revision of Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP). This is another great achievement of the Government, confirming the responsible and effective work that has been carried out over these months. We intend to continue along this path, knowing that the success of our NRRP is in the interest of the nation and its citizens.

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, received the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, at Palazzo Chigi today, as part of her official visit to southern Italy. The cordial meeting was an opportunity to take stock of the main issues currently on the international and European agenda: Ukraine and the Middle East, but also migration, European Union enlargement, revision of the EU multiannual financial framework and security and defence ahead of the EU-Western Balkans summit on 13 December and the European Council meeting on 14 and 15 December 2023.

President Meloni’s statement on attack in the Philippines
Yet another attack, probably of jihadist origin, carried out during a Holy Mass on the First Sunday of Advent, cannot be ignored. The Italian Government expresses its sympathy for the Christian community in the Philippines, in particular on the island of Mindanao, and strongly denounces the brutal persecution carried out by terrorist organisations whose attacks even take the liturgical calendar into account. The international community must not remain indifferent, it must strongly condemn jihadist terrorism and support Christian minorities forced to live in fear with concrete actions.
