Lebanon: President Meloni’s telephone conversation with Prime Minister Mikati

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone conversation today with the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Najib Mikati. President Meloni reaffirmed Italy’s closeness with Lebanon and the Lebanese people and recalled the initial emergency aid allocated yesterday by the Italian Government for the civilian population, reiterating Italy’s commitment to a ceasefire and a diplomatic solution to the conflict which would allow the displaced persons to return to their homes. Italy, also as current G7 President, will continue to work for a de-escalation at regional level

Statement by President Meloni on the situation in Lebanon

1 October 2024

I am closely following the dramatic situation in Lebanon and am in constant contact with the Minister of Defence and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Protecting civilians remains the priority, together with ensuring the safety of the military personnel serving in the Italian contingent of UNIFIL who are present in the south of Lebanon. Italy will keep working with its allies for the stabilisation of the Israel-Lebanon border and the return of displaced persons to their homes. De-escalation at regional level is urgent and necessary and Italy will continue to do its part also as G7 President.

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, received the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of U.S. investment firm BlackRock, Larry Fink, at Palazzo Chigi today. The meeting took place after CEO Fink’s participation in the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII) event held during the G7 Summit in Italy’s Apulia Region in June, which was co-chaired by President Meloni and President Joe Biden of the United States.
