NRRP: institutional meetings and technical working groups to be held from today until 24 October as part of the sixth visit by the European Commission

The sixth visit by the European Commission to discuss in detail the next stages of implementation of Italy’s NRRP (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) is planned from today until Thursday 24 October. Around forty working groups will be held, focusing on the Plan’s strategic measures, the new REPowerEU mission, and the progress of reforms and investments. The meetings will closely examine the milestones and targets for the seventh instalment and for the last three instalments of Italy’s NRRP, while  the verification phase is finalised regarding the milestones and targets for the sixth instalment in order to allow its disbursement.

President Meloni meets with the Emir of the State of Qatar

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, received His Highness the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, at Villa Doria Pamphilj in Rome today, as part of the Emir’s State Visit to Italy. Their discussions focused on the situation in the Middle East. President Meloni shared the outcomes of her recent trips to Jordan and Lebanon with her guest, confirming Italy’s support for the mediation being carried out by Qatar, together with Egypt and the United States, to reach an agreement in Gaza.

Statement by President Meloni on the fight against human trafficking and money laundering

I wish to thank the Guardia di Finanza [Italian Finance Police] in Crotone, the SCICO [Central Organised Crime Investigation Service] and the DDA [District Anti-Mafia Directorate] of Catanzaro for their outstanding operation which has led to the dismantling of an international criminal organisation engaged in human trafficking and money laundering. It is a top priority to combat those who exploit people’s legitimate desire to find better living conditions in order to make huge profits for themselves. The Government is determined to take down these criminal networks and to stamp out the illegal trafficking of human beings, which feeds the interests of the slave traders of the third millennium.

Severe weather: President Meloni in contact with Civil Protection Department

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, is closely following the consequences of the severe weather affecting different parts of Italy, starting with the Bologna area. President Meloni extends her sympathy to the relatives of the victim in Pianoro and is in constant contact with the Minister for Civil Protection, Nello Musumeci, and with the Head of the Civil Protection Department, Fabio Ciciliano.

President Meloni visits Lebanon

18 October 2024

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, travelled to Lebanon today where she met with Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Parliamentary Speaker Nabih Berri, with whom she discussed the situation in Lebanon and in the rest of the region as well as the ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire in both Lebanon and Gaza. With Prime Minister Mikati and Speaker Berri, President Meloni stressed the need to ensure the safety of UNIFIL personnel at all times and had an exchange of views on how to support full and actual implementation of Resolution 1701.

President Meloni visits Jordan

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, visited Jordan today, where she was received by King Abdullah II. The two leaders discussed the situation in the Middle East and the joint efforts towards a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages in line with Resolution 2735, stressing the need for a political process leading to a two-state solution.

Informal meeting in Brussels on migration and innovative solutions

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, together with the Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, and the Dutch Prime Minister, Dick Schoof, held an informal meeting this morning with some of the Member States that have the most interest in the migration issue and in particular the matter of innovative solutions. In addition to Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands and the European Commission, the meeting was also attended by the leaders of Austria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Poland and Slovakia.
