Gaza: statement by President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni

It was with deep dismay and concern that I learned the dramatic news of today’s events in Gaza. There is an urgent need for Israel to ascertain the dynamics of what happened and who is responsible. The numerous new civilian victims require ongoing negotiation efforts to be immediately stepped up in order to create the conditions for a ceasefire and a release of the hostages.

NATO: President Meloni congratulates Swedish Prime Minister

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, offers her congratulations to Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson after today’s approval by the Hungarian Parliament paves the way for Sweden to become the 32nd member of the Atlantic Alliance. With Sweden’s accession, which Italy has strongly supported from the outset, NATO will become stronger in defending peace and freedom on the European continent.

President Meloni chairs first meeting of G7 Heads of State and Government under the Italian Presidency

On February 24th, on the second anniversary of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, chaired a meeting of the G7 Heads of State and Government. President Meloni joined from Kyiv, together with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine. At the end of the meeting, a joint declaration on Ukraine was adopted.

Bilateral meeting with President Zelensky in Kyiv

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a bilateral meeting with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, in Kyiv today, focusing on developments in the conflict in Ukraine. The meeting also provided an opportunity to reiterate that Ukraine is a key issue on the agenda of the Italian G7 Presidency, and to underscore the comprehensive support that Italy is providing to Kyiv, starting with reconstruction and security cooperation. At the end of the meeting, a security cooperation agreement was signed, in line with the commitments undertaken at G7 level during the NATO Summit in Vilnius in July 2023.

President Meloni visits Kyiv

On the second anniversary of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, today chaired a video-conference meeting of the G7 Heads of State and Government, the first under the Italian Presidency, from Kyiv. This morning, President Meloni, together with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the Prime Minister of Belgium and President-in-Office of the Council of the EU, Alexander De Croo, and the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, attended an honours ceremony for those who defended the airport of Hostomel, in the presence of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. Later, after visiting the Memory Wall of Fallen Defenders, the leaders met at Mariinsky Palace, where they issued statements to the press.
