Phone call between President Meloni and French President Macron
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a cordial telephone conversation with the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, today, during which the main issues at the centre of the European and international agenda were addressed. The two leaders reiterated the readiness to provide full support to Ukraine and the urgent need to identify efficacious solutions at EU level to support the competitiveness of European enterprises and to combat illegal immigration through effective control of the European Union’s external borders. President of the Council of Ministers Meloni and President Macron agreed to continue discussing these issues, on which there is broad consensus.

Arresto di Matteo Messina Denaro, il Presidente Meloni in Sicilia
Il Presidente del Consiglio Giorgia Meloni questa mattina ha incontrato a Palermo il procuratore distrettuale di Palermo, Maurizio de Lucia, i magistrati che hanno coordinato le indagini e i carabinieri del Ros che hanno eseguito l'arresto del boss super latitante Matteo Messina Denaro. Prima dell'arrivo in Procura, il Presidente Meloni e il Sottosegretario Mantovano hanno reso omaggio alla stele che ricorda le vittime della strage di Capaci.

President Meloni and Undersecretary of State Mantovano in Sicily following the arrest of Matteo Messina Denaro
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, travelled to Palermo this morning to meet with the District Prosecutor of Palermo, Maurizio de Lucia, the judicial officers who coordinated the investigation and the Carabinieri agents from the ‘ROS’ [Special Operations Group] who carried out the arrest of the notorious fugitive mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro. She later addressed journalists at a doorstep.
Before arriving at the Prosecutor’s Office, President Meloni and Undersecretary of State Alfredo Mantovano observed a minute’s silence in front of the memorial honouring the victims of the Capaci bombing.

Before arriving at the Prosecutor’s Office, President Meloni and Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Alfredo Mantovano paid tribute at the memorial honouring the victims of the Capaci bombing.

Il Presidente del Consiglio Giorgia Meloni si è recata questa mattina a Palermo per incontrare il procuratore distrettuale di Palermo, Maurizio de Lucia, i magistrati che hanno coordinato le indagini e i carabinieri del Ros che hanno eseguito l'arresto del boss super latitante Matteo Messina Denaro. Successivamente ha tenuto un punto stampa.
Prima dell'arrivo in Procura, il Presidente Meloni e il Sottosegretario alla Presidenza Alfredo Mantovano hanno osservato un minuto di raccoglimento davanti alla stele in memoria delle vittime della strage di Capaci.

President Meloni’s statement on the arrest of Matteo Messina Denaro
“This is a great victory for the state, showing that it does not give up in the face of the mafia”, commented President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni on the news of the arrest of Matteo Messina Denaro. “The day after the anniversary of Totò Riina’s arrest, another organised crime boss has been brought to justice. My sincerest thanks, along with those of the entire Government, go to the police forces, and in particular the ‘ROS’ [Special Operations Group] of the Carabinieri, to the National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor’s Office and to the Palermo Public Prosecutor’s Office, for the capture of the most significant exponent of mafia-related crime. The Government – continued President Meloni – ensures that the fight against the mafia will continue unabated, as shown by the fact that the first measure we introduced (defending the hard prison regime for mafia convicts) referred precisely to this issue”.
