President Meloni at the G7 Summit

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met with the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, on Thursday 18 May, on the eve of the G7 Summit which is being held in Hiroshima from 19 to 21 May.
After participating in the first two days of the Summit, President Meloni decided to return to Italy earlier than planned in order to closely follow the severe weather emergency, and held a closing press conference.

President Meloni at the G7 Summit

President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni today attended the second day of the G7 Summit, which is being held in Hiroshima from 19 to 21 May.
In the margins of the Summit, where the afternoon working sessions also included G7 Partner Countries and international organisations, President Meloni had bilateral meetings with the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. This evening, President Meloni announced in a press conference that she had decided to return to Italy earlier than planned in order to closely follow the severe weather emergency.

President Meloni meets with Chancellor Scholz of Germany

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met today with the Federal Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, in the margins of the G7 Summit in Hiroshima. The meeting, also ahead of the German Head of Government’s upcoming visit to Italy, focused on the growth of synergies between the industrial systems of Italy and Germany - the largest in Europe.

Flooding in Emilia-Romagna: Council of Ministers meeting on 23 May to approve initial urgent measures

The Council of Ministers meeting called for Tuesday 23 May, at 11am, will be largely dedicated to the first urgent measures relating to the serious flooding affecting people in Emilia-Romagna and some areas in the Marche and Tuscany regions. As well as revising the decree by the Civil Protection Department, which had already declared a state of emergency a few days ago, widening the perimeter of the relative area, the agenda of the meeting will also include a decree-law to make initial allocations and to suspend or postpone deadlines for tax and social security payments, legal proceedings and in other areas. After the meeting, President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni, together with the Ministers responsible for dealing with the emergency in various ways, will meet with the President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Stefano Bonaccini, who will be accompanied by representatives of local social partners.

President Meloni meets with Prime Minister Sunak of the United Kingdom

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met today with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, in the margins of the G7 Summit in Hiroshima. The meeting came just a few weeks after President Meloni’s fruitful visit to London at the end of April, when the two Heads of Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral cooperation. The intensity of the ongoing dialogue between President Meloni and Prime Minister Sunak testifies to the strong revival in relations between Italy and the United Kingdom.

Alluvione in Emilia-Romagna, nel Consiglio dei Ministri del 23 maggio i primi urgenti provvedimenti

Il Consiglio dei ministri, convocato per le ore 11 di martedì 23 maggio, sarà dedicato in larga parte ai primi urgenti provvedimenti relativi alla grave alluvione che ha colpito le popolazioni dell’Emilia-Romagna, e di alcune zone delle Marche e della Toscana. Oltre alla rimodulazione dell’ordinanza di Protezione civile, che aveva già dichiarato nei giorni scorsi lo stato di emergenza, con l’estensione del perimetro della relativa area, all’ordine del giorno ci sarà un decreto-legge con i primi stanziamenti e con la sospensione o proroga dei termini fiscali, contributivi, giudiziari e di altro tipo. Al termine del Cdm il presidente del Consiglio, Giorgia Meloni, con i ministri aventi a vario titolo competenza per l’emergenza, incontrerà il presidente della Regione Emilia-Romagna, Stefano Bonaccini, che sarà accompagnato da rappresentanti delle parti sociali del territorio.

Weather emergency: President Meloni in video conference with Civil Protection Operations Committee

President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni today attended a meeting of the Civil Protection Department’s operations committee via video link from Anchorage, in Alaska (where she was on a technical stopover on her way to the G7 in Hiroshima, Japan), to take stock of developments regarding the weather emergency affecting the Emilia Romagna Region. The meeting was also attended by Minister for Civil Protection and Marine Policies Nello Musumeci, President of the Emilia Romagna Region Stefano Bonaccini and Head of the Civil Protection Department Fabrizio Curcio.

President Meloni’s statement on International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia

On the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, the Government reaffirms its commitment against all forms of discrimination, violence and intolerance. The protection and defence of each person’s dignity is enshrined in the Constitution and is a priority that must be pursued by all institutions, at all levels. The Government is pursuing this commitment with determination, also with regard to prevention and victim support, starting with the freeing up of the necessary resources to refinance anti-discrimination centres.
