The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, was received in audience by the Holy Father Pope Francis at the Vatican Apostolic Palace today.

Il Presidente del Consiglio, Giorgia Meloni, ha incontrato oggi a Palazzo Chigi il Primo Ministro giapponese, Fumio Kishida. Nel corso dei colloqui, particolarmente amichevoli, i due Capi di Governo hanno discusso dell’articolata agenda bilaterale fra Italia e Giappone, fra cui la cooperazione in ambito politico, economico-commerciale, culturale e di sicurezza. Hanno inoltre avuto un approfondito scambio di vedute sul programma di lavoro del G7, nel contesto delle successive Presidenze giapponese (2023) e italiana (2024) del Gruppo e delle grandi sfide globali.

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met today with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, at Palazzo Chigi. After their meeting in Brussels during the President of the Council of Ministers’ first foreign visit, today’s meeting, which was also attended by Minister Raffaele Fitto, provided an excellent opportunity to exchange views ahead of the special European Council meeting to be held on 9-10 February, which will particularly focus on the economy and migration. With regard to economic recovery, the Italian Government’s commitment to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (‘NRRP’) was also reaffirmed. 
During the meeting, the two leaders also shared their condemnation of the violent acts in Brazil and their solidarity with the country’s democratic institutions. They also expressed satisfaction regarding the signing of the EU-NATO joint declaration, scheduled for tomorrow in Brussels.
