Former Ilva steel plant in Taranto: Government meets with trade union organisations
27 September 2023
The Government met with trade union organisations at Palazzo Chigi today, to discuss the former Ilva steel plant in Taranto. The meeting was attended by Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Alfredo Mantovano, Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso, Minister of Labour and Social Policies Marina Calderone, Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP Raffaele Fitto, and the national leaders of trade union organisations FIM - CISL, FIOM – CGIL, UILM - UIL, UGL and USB.
After listening to the input from the workers’ representatives regarding the complex issues that have surrounded the steelworks for decades, the Government recalled the measures that have been adopted to date to address its numerous, long-standing critical problems, one by one.
The Government has been taking care of this difficult situation since it first came to office, introducing regulations (with decree law no. 69/2023) to make it possible to manage the company, release the resources made available to it and resolve the ongoing infringement proceedings.
