The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met today with the President of the State of Israel, Isaac Herzog, at Palazzo Chigi.
President Meloni reaffirmed the Italian Government’s closeness to Israel and its strong condemnation of Hamas’s terrorism.
The President of the Council of Ministers also renewed Italy’s commitment to regional de-escalation, highlighting the role played by the Italian contingent on the border with Lebanon as part of the UNIFIL mission and reiterating the strong level of concern regarding the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
Stressing the importance of reaching a ceasefire and the release of hostages as soon as possible, by working towards a two-state solution, President Meloni provided assurance that Italy will continue to support the mediation efforts by the United States and will keep bringing assistance to the Palestinian civilian population, through the ‘Food for Gaza’ initiative.
