The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met today with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Burundi, Gervais Ndirakobuca, at Palazzo Chigi. The meeting focused on the strengthening of bilateral relations, stabilisation of the Great Lakes region and Italy’s commitment, also in the European context, to the African continent.
Italy intends to collaborate with African nations, pursuing an equal and non-predatory approach, and is careful to listen to the point of view of local leadership. The trip to Ethiopia and today’s meeting confirm the Government’s attention to Africa, ahead of the upcoming multilateral engagements that will take place in Rome: the UN Food Systems Stocktaking Moment in July and the Italy-Africa Conference in the autumn.
