‘Milano Cortina 2026’ steering committee meeting held at Palazzo Chigi

The steering committee for the works projects relating to the ‘Milano Cortina 2026’ Winter Olympics and Paralympics met today at Palazzo Chigi. The meeting was chaired by Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini and by Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi, who is in charge of the 2026 Olympics and Paralympics.

Among the topics discussed during the meeting were the choice of location for the speed skating events, the creation of a national round table on transport and the protocol of legality proposal for the work to host the Games.

The technical appraisal of the Olympic Village location in Cortina d’Ampezzo was also illustrated.

The meeting was attended, among others, by: Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Alfredo Mantovano; Minister for Disabilities Alessandra Locatelli; Minister of Tourism Daniela Santanchè; Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Alessandro Morelli; Undersecretary of State to the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security Claudio Barbaro; Undersecretary of State to the Ministry of the Interior Nicola Molteni; Undersecretary of State to the Ministry of Culture Lucia Borgonzoni; President of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) and President of the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation Giovanni Malagò; President of the Italian Paralympic Committee (CIP) Luca Pancalli; Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation Andrea Varnier; and, the President of the company ‘Infrastrutture Milano Cortina 2026’, Veronica Vecchi, and its Chief Executive Officer, Luigi Valerio Sant’Andrea.

The State Accountant General, Biagio Mazzotta, the President of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, the President of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia, the Mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, and the Mayor of Cortina d’Ampezzo, Gianluca Lorenzi, also spoke at the meeting. 

The next steering committee meeting will be held at 2pm on 4 May.
