Minister Fitto: Italy’s delays in spending EU funds are known, structural intervention needed

14 April 2023

“The figures published on the European Commission’s Cohesion Data portal, which place Italy in penultimate position in Europe for spending 2014-2020 programming period funds, unfortunately confirm what we have known for a long time and this is something we had already flagged up in our Implementation progress report for the 2014-2020 programming period”, stated Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP Raffaele Fitto.
“Italy is not managing to spend European Union cohesion funds in a satisfactory and efficient manner. This is why – continued Minister Fitto – it is more necessary and urgent than ever to intervene in a structural way to change the system for using the funds. This is a crucial challenge for our country”.
