NRRP: European Commission has today paid the fourth instalment, worth EUR 16.5 billion, to Italy

28 December 2023

Today’s payment is the result of Italy achieving all 28 milestones and targets linked to the fourth instalment, as verified by the European Union.

These milestones and targets regard measures needed to continue the implementation of justice and public administration reforms, as well as important reforms in the fields of social inclusion and public procurement. The main investments are related to digitalisation, with particular regard to the transition of local public administrations’ data to the cloud, development of the space industry, green hydrogen, transport, research, education and social policies.

As previously announced by the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, the fourth instalment has been paid by the end of 2023, meaning Italy has now so far received approximately EUR 102 billion in NRRP resources, corresponding to over half of the Plan’s total resources. This shows the great progress Italy has made in achieving the planned measures.

Based on the Plan as recently amended by the European Council, the Meloni Government will continue with the full and timely implementation of the NRRP, within the framework of ongoing and close cooperation with the European Commission.
