NRRP steering committee meeting on actions to overcome illegal settlements in agriculture
4 July 2024
A steering committee meeting for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) was held this afternoon, called and chaired by the Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP, Raffaele Fitto, and attended by Minister of Labour and Social Policies Marina Calderone, Minister of Economy and Finance Giancarlo Giorgetti, Undersecretary of State to the Ministry of the Interior Emanuele Prisco, President of ANCI [National Association of Italian Municipalities] Antonio Decaro and the Special commissioner for work to overcome illegal settlements and fight labour exploitation in agriculture, Maurizio Falco.
The constructive meeting discussed the implementation status of the NRRP measure linked to actions to overcome illegal settlements in agriculture. The end goal is to complete work for this measure by March 2025, in relation to which resources have been allocated to 37 municipalities based on the mapping of illegal settlements carried out by the ‘Working group to fight labour exploitation in agriculture’. Following the allocation of resources, the respective authorities must provide an action plan for each illegal settlement identified.
During the steering committee meeting, operational discussions were formally initiated with the Government commissioner on the steps to be taken to address certain issues that emerged during talks with ANCI and to speed up accomplishment of the target, with particular reference to the financial resources allocated for infrastructure projects, equal to 70% of the measure’s total value.
