The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, received the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, at Palazzo Chigi today.
The meeting focused on the Atlantic Alliance’s role as an essential pillar of common security in the face of numerous areas of instability, and on Italy’s leading contribution to comprehensive Euro-Atlantic defence.
Supporting Ukraine’s legitimate defence was also discussed, as was the strengthening of the Alliance’s European pillar, also for an increasingly innovative and competitive defence industry, as well the need for NATO to adapt to the new security challenges.
There was also agreement on the strategic need to fully implement the new approach to the southern flank decided upon at the Washington Summit.
