Introduction by President Meloni
Overall, I think these two days have been very positive. As you know, we’ve been to the United States and now Canada to present Italy’s priorities for its G7 Presidency, with particular regard to the Leaders’ Summit that will be held in Puglia in June. I must say there has been a great deal of convergence on Italy’s priorities, with regard to both the major international issues on the table and the innovations that Italy is bringing to this Presidency: the attention paid to Africa; the governance of migration flows; the proposal for a global alliance against human traffickers; the issue of artificial intelligence; the Indo-Pacific; and many other matters. These include something completely new that Italy will be introducing and that perhaps you still don’t know about: the Italian Presidency will be organising a G7 ministerial meeting dedicated to disability and the inclusion of people with disabilities, for the first time in the history of the G7.
I am very pleased because it is a G7 Presidency that has a lot of Italian imprimatur, of Italian interests, and there is alignment among the other members of the G7. I am therefore also very optimistic about the fact that it can achieve important results, and I would like them to be concrete. I think these two days have shown that there is a great deal of attention surrounding Italy’s proposals and vision, surrounding Italy’s leading role, and I am therefore very satisfied with this trip.
