President Meloni’s statement on 150th anniversary of the death of Alessandro Manzoni

Today, Italy and Italians are celebrating Alessandro Manzoni. The nation pays tribute to a great Italian, who had a universal mindset that is ever relevant, who played a fundamental role in the dissemination of the Italian language and whose works accompanied the Risorgimento and the path to Italy’s unification.
Manzoni is a great example of love for Italy, its history and its literature. His writings have contributed, and will continue to contribute, to the formation of our national identity and to the cultural and civil growth of our people.
150 years on from his death, we are celebrating his greatness and renewing our commitment to safeguard and value his legacy.
