President Meloni’s statement on World Autism Awareness Day

2 April 2023

Today is World Autism Awareness Day, established by the United Nations in 2007 to promote greater attention to people with autism spectrum disorder.
To mark this occasion, Palazzo Chigi’s façade will be lit up in blue from sunset this evening until 6am tomorrow morning as a small gesture to express closeness with the families, associations and health professionals who, with such love and commitment, face important challenges every day.
This is why we intend to resolutely support each person’s life plan and the many actions already taken by the Government to sustain research, finance social and healthcare projects and improve measures to help individuals on their path to adulthood.
This is why we have earmarked EUR 77 million to improve quality of life for people with autism spectrum disorder and to develop projects for inclusion and full participation in daily life. Our commitment is unwavering and determined: recognising each person’s talents and resources that can be enhanced is an investment for communities and makes Italy stronger and more cohesive.
