President Meloni’s telephone conversation with King Abdullah II of Jordan

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone conversation this afternoon with King Abdullah II of Jordan regarding the regional situation in the Middle East following Iran’s attack against Israel.
President Meloni made reference to the conclusions of the G7 Leaders’ meeting she chaired on Sunday, and the two Leaders focused on the need to avoid further escalation in the region.
In line with the G7 Leaders’ statement, President Meloni highlighted the importance of ending the crisis in Gaza, including by continuing to work towards an immediate and sustainable ceasefire and the release of hostages by Hamas.
The two Leaders then discussed the response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza in which Jordan is playing a leading role. President Meloni reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to the population of the Strip.
President Meloni and King Abdullah II agreed to keep in close contact over the coming weeks.
