President Meloni’s telephone conversation with President Pezeshkian

As part of the conversations she has been holding over the last few days on the situation in the Middle East, the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone call today with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian.

President Meloni stressed the need to prevent the ongoing conflict in Gaza from spreading, also with reference to Lebanon, inviting President Pezeshkian to avoid further escalation and to re-establish dialogue.

Lastly, President Meloni reaffirmed Italy’s continuing commitment to support peace and stability in the region through the necessary attainment of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the release of hostages and a strengthening of humanitarian aid to the civilian population.
