Statement by Palazzo Chigi on meeting to launch NRRP coordination units in all Prefectures

27 May 2024

A meeting was held at the Prefecture of Rome today to launch the more than a hundred coordination units for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) established by Decree-Law no. 19 of 2024, covering all Prefectures.

The meeting was coordinated by the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, who, for the occasion, presided over the coordination unit set up at the Prefecture of Rome, with the other coordination units across Italy participating via video link. The meeting was also attended by the Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP, Raffaele Fitto, and the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi.

By launching the coordination units, which will provide real support on the ground in local areas, the Government is further strengthening the NRRP governance system, ensuring a systematic and more comprehensive network between the NRRP Steering Committee, central administrations and implementing bodies while leveraging the local presence and experience of the Prefectures, which are taking on a renewed leading role in implementing the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The coordination units will support implementing bodies in rolling out the Plan, promptly detecting any signs of critical issues arising on the ground, finding appropriate solutions in collaboration with all the institutions involved, and contributing to their swift implementation through dedicated action plans.
This is another significant step within the framework of cooperation between all institutional levels for implementation of the NRRP, with Prefects acting as a driving force and with the full involvement of the whole of civil society: the Government has been supporting this approach since it entered office, placing Italy first among EU Member States in terms of achievements in implementing the NRRP.
