Steering committee established for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics

A meeting was held today at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, at Palazzo Chigi in Rome, to establish the steering committee for the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics to be held in Milan and Cortina. The steering committee is composed of all the institutional and operational players involved. Today’s meeting, coordinated by Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Alfredo Mantovano, was attended by: Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi, who is in charge of the 2026 Olympics and Paralympics; Minister of Economy and Finance Giancarlo Giorgetti; Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini; President of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) and President of the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation Giovanni Malagò; President of the Italian Paralympic Committee and Vice-President of the Foundation Luca Pancalli; Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation Andrea Varnier; and, the President and the Chief Executive Officer of the company ‘Infrastrutture Milano Cortina 2026’, respectively Veronica Vecchi and Luigi Valerio Santandrea. 

The steering committee, established in collaboration with the board of representatives of the local areas involved with the Olympics and Paralympics, undertook to systematically review any issues regarding progress with the works projects (both public works and sport infrastructure) and to look into possible regulations to speed up said projects.

The steering committee members arranged to meet again on 27 February, together with the board of representatives of the local areas involved.
