Meeting of the Interministerial Committee for Cybersecurity

28 November 2023

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, chaired a meeting of the Interministerial Committee for Cybersecurity (‘Comitato Interministeriale per la Cybersicurezza’, ‘CIC’) today, attended by Undersecretary of State Alfredo Mantovano, delegated authority for the security of the Republic, and by central government administrations with responsibilities for cybersecurity. The CIC’s composition and duties are defined in the decree-law that established the National Cybersecurity Agency (‘Agenzia per la Cybersicurezza Nazionale’, ‘ACN’). During today’s meeting, the committee assessed the current state of cybersecurity in light of the delicate international geopolitical situation with regard to the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, following which there has been an increase in cyberattacks and hackers also targeting institutional websites.

An Intergovernmental Summit between Italy and Germany was held in Berlin today, attended by the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, the Federal Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, seven Italian Government Ministers (Foreign Affairs; Interior; Defence; Economy and Finance; Enterprises and Made in Italy; Labour; University) and seven German Government Ministers. During the Summit, the President of the Council of Ministers and Chancellor Scholz signed an Action Plan to strengthen cooperation at both bilateral and European level.

It is with great relief that I welcome the agreement to secure the release of hostages taken by Hamas during the brutal attack against Israel on 7 October. This agreement will also allow a much-needed humanitarian pause in Gaza. We will continue to work for the release of all hostages and for lasting peace in the Middle East. Today, we are thinking of the families who will finally be able to embrace their loved ones once again.
